This Burlington Northern caboose sat abandoned on the railroad tracks along the Spokane River near Coeur d'Alene's Riverstone development for several years until the tracks were abandoned. This winter shot really brings out the bright green of the car and almost darkens the yellow to near-orange, making for an interesting contrast of the railcar against the snow. Earlier in 2011 Burlington Northern Santa Fe (BNSF) Railway Company ripped up three and a quarter miles of track, including the area where this railcar used to sit. All the tracks from City Park and the North Idaho College campus to Mill River near Huetter have been removed. This rail line once served the Coeur d'Alene mills, however since the last of those was removed two years ago, there is little need for the railroad running to downtown Coeur d'Alene anymore. The area where this car once sat is to become the property of the Lake City Development Corporation, which is likely to sell the land in parcels for private development. We have a wallpaper with this same caboose, sans snow here.
