I found this dark orange, some would even call it red, sunflower in a meadow deep in the forests of North Idaho. Sunflowers don't require much gardening expertise and will grow nearly anywhere, brightening up your garden with their blooms. They can vary greatly in color, and although the typical sunflower will be a bright yellow, orange and red are not uncommon.
Contrary to popular legend, sunflowers do not turn to follow the sun. In fact, they typically face east. Young buds do tend to track the sun, turning from east to west during the day, but mature flower heads remain facing steadfastly to the east.
