Idaho Peach

Hunters Trace Idaho Peach

Dogs are important to people in Idaho and throughout the Inland Northwest. They are helpful for hunting, search & rescue, and as companions. Hunters Trace Idaho Peach, or Peaches, is a Golden Retriever and a champion agility dog who has competed at various dog shows throughout the northwest. In this photo she is resting during a training session.

Agility dog trials have recently become quite popular. It is a dog sport in which a handler directs the dog through an obstacle course in a race for both time and accuracy. Obstacles include teeter totters, tunnels, weave poles, and jumps. The dogs run off-leash with no food or toys as incentives, and without being touched by the handler. The handler's controls are limited to vocal, body, and hand signals, requiring an exceptional amount of training, coordination and trust between the dog and its handler. Many dog shows have begun to include agility events in addition to more traditional show formats such as obedience and appearance competitions.
